Sifi Ghrieb Concludes Friendship Visit to Mali
Premier Minister Sifi Ghrieb recently concluded an official friendship visit to Bamako, Mali, carrying a message of fraternity from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Malian President Assimi Goïta. During his visit, Mr. Ghrieb held extensive discussions with his Malian counterpart, General Abdoulaye Maïga, and was received by President Goïta. The visit underscored the strong political will of both heads of state to consolidate bilateral relations, coming shortly after Prime Minister Maïga's visit to Algeria in August. A key outcome of the discussions was the active preparation for President Goïta's forthcoming visit to Algeria, at the invitation of President Tebboune, marking a significant milestone in bilateral ties.
Algeria expressed its full readiness to reactivate institutional cooperation mechanisms, including the Grand Joint Cooperation Commission, to update and strengthen the legal framework governing relations. This initiative is designed to align cooperation with current needs, building upon historical ties of fraternity, solidarity, and good neighborliness that have long defined the Algeria-Mali relationship. Discussions highlighted the importance of intensifying projects, investments, trade, and infrastructure development, particularly in border areas, to foster regional economic integration. Projects such as the Trans-Saharan Road and the Trans-Saharan fiber optic backbone were specifically noted as vital corridors for facilitating trade and interconnectivity.
Both nations emphasized that regional stability requires a comprehensive approach, integrating economic development with security measures. Experts indicated that Algeria plays a crucial role in this economic connection, having completed its section of the Tamanrasset-Bamako road. The visit also aimed to establish a common vision on important bilateral issues for submission to Presidents Tebboune and Goïta during the upcoming Algerian visit. This shared approach seeks to consolidate joint efforts towards greater security, stability, development, and prosperity across the regional and continental spheres.
