FIAT El Djazaïr Partners Petro Baraka for Local Lubricants
FIAT El Djazaïr announced on September 15 a new partnership with Petro Baraka, a private Algerian producer and distributor of lubricants based in Biskra. This agreement introduces a complementary offer of locally manufactured lubricants into FIAT's after-sales network across Algeria. The partnership underscores FIAT El Djazaïr's commitment to enhancing local supply chains and collaborating with Algerian industrial operators, while maintaining the technical specifications for vehicles and warranty conditions.
Petro Baraka, established in 1995 as an operator for fuel storage and distribution, commenced its industrial production of lubricants in 2020. This collaboration with FIAT El Djazaïr marks the company's second engagement with a major automotive manufacturer's network, following a prior partnership with MOTRIO, Renault Algérie's after-sales network. Petro Baraka joins a growing roster of Algerian suppliers for FIAT, which already includes SNC IK oil for lubricants, Accessoire Mobile for roof racks, Nordine Automotiv for cooling liquids, and Fabcom for batteries.
The agreement with Petro Baraka is one of several commitments made by FIAT El Djazaïr this year to strengthen local subcontracting. Earlier in January, Nordine Automotiv secured a contract for the local production of Eurorepar branded windshield washer fluids, building on previous agreements with Ikam Auto for brake pads and Idenet for geolocation solutions. In February, five additional contracts were signed at the Mechanica Algeria exhibition in Oran, increasing the total number of local suppliers to 31, with 13 serving the factory and the remainder contributing to after-sales services. Further reinforcing its local investment, FIAT announced an expansion of its Tafraoui plant in April, aiming to reach an annual production capacity of 135,000 vehicles by 2028, coupled with an agreement for stamping parts with Algerian company EURL Boks.
This expanded local sourcing aligns with the significant production successes reported by FIAT El Djazaïr's Tafraoui plant. The Algerian subsidiary of Stellantis announced a record second quarter in 2026, producing and selling over 20,000 units locally. At this pace, the plant is projected to assemble between 80,000 and 90,000 vehicles by the end of the year. Since its opening in December 2023, the Tafraoui site has shown a clear trajectory of growth, reaching 17,000 vehicles in 2024, 53,000 in 2025, and surpassing 90,000 cumulative units by mid-May 2026, ahead of the manufacturer's own timeline.
