Minister Haneefi Meets South Africa, Angola Mining Officials
Algeria's Minister of Mines and Mining Industry, Mourad Haneefi, recently hosted high-level delegations from both South Africa and Angola to advance cooperation in the mining sector. During discussions, the Algerian side, supported by Secretary of State for Mines Karima Bekir Tafer, engaged with South Africa's Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, alongside Ambassador Ndomiso Ndimangachenga. These significant meetings focused on enhancing bilateral ties and are expected to culminate in a cooperation agreement between Algeria and South Africa, aiming to foster deeper partnership and mutual benefit.
The proposed agreement with South Africa is designed to significantly benefit Algeria by drawing on South Africa's leading expertise in mineral exploration, geological research, deep drilling techniques, and sustainable resource exploitation. Key areas of collaboration include the local beneficiation of mineral resources, transforming raw materials into value-added products to create new job opportunities and bolster the national industrial fabric. Furthermore, the cooperation seeks to implement advanced geophysical and geological exploration methods, exchange expertise in environmental management for mining sites, and develop human resources through training and joint research initiatives focused on technological innovation in the sector. The South African delegation, including representatives from MINTEK and geological science officials, is conducting field visits to various Algerian institutions to explore direct partnership mechanisms.
Concurrently, Minister Haneefi also held a second round of discussions with a high-level delegation from Angola's Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas, attended by Ambassador Toco Diakinenga Serawo. These ongoing talks underscore Algeria's commitment to reinforcing its strategic relationships across Africa. The focus with Angola centers on exploring opportunities for exchanging technical, institutional, and geological expertise, further solidifying bilateral relations within the mining sector and contributing to shared regional development objectives.
