Public Operators Sign Deals for Local Elevator, Wagon Production
Algeria is advancing its industrial integration strategy and import substitution efforts through new agreements involving public sector entities. The Entreprise Nationale de Charpente et de Chaudronnerie (ENCC Spa) and the Entreprise Nationale des Ascenseurs (ENASC Spa) have formalized an industrial and commercial cooperation framework agreement. This partnership is designed to relocate the manufacturing of elevators and lifting equipment within Algeria. Under the terms, ENCC will contribute its expertise in designing and assembling metallic structures, while ENASC will provide its know-how in engineering, installation, and maintenance of lifting systems. This collaboration immediately addresses a program for 7,000 residential elevators.
The joint venture aims to produce essential components locally, including metallic structures, mechanical parts, and various accessories for elevators and hoists. Both entities emphasize adherence to quality and safety standards, alongside strict cost control and timely deliveries. Beyond the initial volume, the partners intend to establish a comprehensive national sector for lifting equipment, which is expected to generate added value and reduce foreign currency expenditures for the building industry. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to strengthening the national industrial base.
In a related development to consolidate the national industrial fabric, ENCC Spa, a subsidiary of Holding SNS, has also entered into a strategic framework agreement with Groupe FERROVIAL. This alliance focuses on the local manufacturing of mining wagons specifically for the transport of phosphate, supporting the country's major mining and railway projects. By combining their industrial capabilities, the partners target a national integration rate exceeding 70 percent, thereby reducing dependence on imported rolling stock. This project is anticipated to accelerate technology transfer, develop local skills, create qualified employment opportunities, and enhance Algeria's industrial sovereignty.
