Civil Protection Sector to Receive Wage Increases, Equipment Upgrades

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presiding over a Council of Ministers meeting in Algiers, issued directives for a comprehensive increase in wages for Civil Protection personnel. This significant decision also includes a thorough revision of their statutory framework, aligning it with the realities of climate change and the escalating major risks that members of this vital corps frequently encounter.

The comprehensive review of the statutory framework encompasses adjustments to the basic statute, ranks, and indemnities. The President emphasized that the revised statute should facilitate the valuation of indemnities specifically for field personnel and their families, while also re-evaluating the rank structure to match the corps' specialized roles and categorize tasks for both administrative and field staff. This strategic overhaul aims to maintain high operational efficiency and readiness among personnel, thereby minimizing potential loss of life during interventions.

In addition to the personnel-focused initiatives, President Tebboune ordered a technical and technological modernization of the Civil Protection's field equipment and resources. This includes the acquisition of advanced devices and the implementation of a structured plan for their renewal. Furthermore, directives were given for the continuous training of Civil Protection members throughout their professional careers, the establishment of new monitoring points and sub-centers in densely forested areas in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, and the gradual enhancement of the firefighting aircraft fleet as market availability permits.
