German Delegation Discusses Green Hydrogen with Algerian Officials

A delegation comprising 11 German companies initiated a prospecting mission in Algeria on September 21, 2026, focusing on green hydrogen, Power-to-X technologies, renewable energies, and energy storage along the SoutH2 corridor. Organized by the German Federal Ministry of Economy in collaboration with the German-Algerian Chamber of Commerce, the mission commenced in Algiers with a 'Business Breakfast'. This event brought together Algerian public authorities, energy companies, and financial institutions to discuss future cooperation in these vital sectors.

The mission's scope encompasses the entire green hydrogen value chain, including electrolysis, desalination, storage solutions, industrial equipment, and feasibility studies. This collaborative effort aligns with Algeria's strategic objective to achieve 2.5 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030. Furthermore, the discussions included the potential reconversion of the TransMed pipeline, underscoring Algeria's commitment to developing its green hydrogen infrastructure and export capabilities.

The SoutH2 corridor project is designed to facilitate the transport of North African hydrogen to Germany via Italy and Austria. Through its engagement with this initiative and the German delegation, Algeria is strategically positioning itself as a key actor in the evolving Euro-Mediterranean energy chain. This development highlights Algeria's proactive role in the global energy transition and its capacity to attract significant foreign interest in future energy sectors.
