Young Midfielder Bourbaba Joins Algerian Squad for CAN Qualifiers

The Algerian national football team has called up young midfielder Adil Bourbaba to join the senior squad. This selection comes as a replacement for the injured veteran Nabil Bentaleb, with the team currently preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2027 qualifying matches during the ongoing international break.

Adil Bourbaba, a 21-year-old talent, is set to make his first appearance with the Algerian senior team. He has garnered attention while playing for his French club, Le Mans, where he has participated in five matches this season. The decision to include the young player follows Bentaleb's injury, sustained during his club Lille's 2-1 loss to Nice in a French league fixture.

Bourbaba's inclusion is intended to reinforce the midfield ahead of the team's upcoming engagements, particularly as he is establishing himself with Le Mans and gaining playing opportunities in French competitions. This period also marks coach Ibrahim Hamdani's first official matches leading the senior national team, building on his previous success in guiding a team to a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games.

Algeria is scheduled to commence its journey in Group 9 of the CAN 2027 qualifiers. The team will host Zambia on September 25 for their opening match, followed by an away fixture against Burundi on September 29. The current international break will conclude with a friendly match against Niger on October 6.
