National Cancer Care Enhanced with 52 New Treatments, 73 Billion Dinars
The Algerian government has reaffirmed its commitment to significantly improve cancer patient care, aligning with directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Speaking at the Second International Conference on Cancer Patients in Algiers, Health Minister Mohamed Seddik Ait Mezaoudane announced a substantial allocation exceeding 73 billion Algerian dinars to the National Cancer Fighting Fund. This fund will receive an additional 40 billion dinars annually, alongside state budget allocations, to ensure sustained resources for combating the disease, with financial allocations for anti-cancer medications projected to reach 40 billion dinars in 2026.
To enhance treatment options and infrastructure, 52 innovative treatments are being integrated into the country's therapeutic arsenal, providing patients with the latest medical advancements and reducing supply interruptions. The state is also dedicating considerable resources to capacity building, including the opening of 25 new specialized departments and the acquisition of 16 linear accelerators slated for deployment by 2028. Additionally, a PET Scan device in Tizi Ouzou is set to become operational before the year's end, strategically relocated to ensure efficient utilization.
This comprehensive national strategy extends beyond curative measures, emphasizing prevention and early detection as crucial for improving recovery rates. The Ministry of Health is actively implementing the National Strategy Roadmap for Cancer Prevention and Control (2025-2035) and accelerating the adoption of electronic medical records to streamline patient care. Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women's Issues, Souad Mouloudji, underscored the state's unwavering commitment to citizens' right to health and social protection, highlighting the provision of free medication for needy, uninsured individuals and their minor children, without financial or prescription limits, in line with presidential instructions.
