New York Talks Deepen Algeria-Russia Diplomatic Ties

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in New York during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting served as an opportunity to reinforce the strong ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations across various fields, affirming a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

The ministers engaged in extensive talks regarding international and regional issues of mutual interest. Specific attention was given to developments in the Middle East, the Sahel-Saharan region, and the Western Sahara issue. Both parties agreed to continue their consultations and coordination on these matters, both bilaterally and within multilateral organizations, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and political solutions in adherence to international law and the UN Charter.

A significant portion of their agenda focused on expanding economic partnership and commercial exchanges between Algeria and Russia. Furthermore, the two officials reviewed ongoing preparations for two major upcoming international events: the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled to be held in Moscow in October 2026, and the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum at the foreign ministerial level, anticipated in December.
