Australia-Algeria Business Council Proposed for Economic Growth

Khalida Boudafi, President of the National People's Assembly, engaged in a video conference with Milton Dick, Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation. During the discussions, President Boudafi proposed the establishment of an Algerian-Australian Business Council.

This proposed council would work to enhance communication between business communities and showcase investment opportunities available within Algeria. It aims to encourage the utilization of these opportunities, particularly given the incentives provided by Algeria's new Investment Law of 2022. President Boudafi emphasized the distinguished friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Australia, rooted in historical ties, and underscored the necessity of elevating these relationships, including in parliamentary cooperation.

In support of this cooperative spirit, the President of the National People's Assembly welcomed the prompt formation of the Algerian-Australian Parliamentary Friendship Group, seeing it as a positive step for legislative relations. She also noted that a second round of political consultations between the two nations could provide further momentum to bilateral cooperation. For his part, Milton Dick recognized both Australia and Algeria as democracies sharing similar approaches and highlighted the natural resources of both countries, stressing the importance of encouraging inter-investment and expanding economic and commercial cooperation to match the strong bilateral relationship. President Boudafi extended an invitation for her Australian counterpart to visit Algeria, anticipating that such a visit would be a significant step in further advancing parliamentary relations between the two countries.
