5+5 Defense Initiative Concludes ‘SEABOARDER 2026’ Naval Exercise
Algeria actively participated in the successful conclusion of the "SEABOARDER 2026" joint naval exercise, which recently concluded at the Tripoli Naval Base. This multi-day drill, hosted by Libya, brought together naval delegations and crews from nine member states of the 5+5 Defense Initiative, including Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, and Tunisia. The closing ceremony saw attendance from representatives of Libya’s Ministry of Defence and General Staff, along with military attachés from Algeria, Tunisia, France, Spain, and Italy, underscoring the collaborative nature of the regional security effort.
The exercise featured workshops and specialized training designed to enhance maritime search and rescue capabilities among participating nations. Key objectives included strengthening coordination, facilitating the exchange of expertise among crews, and improving overall readiness for conducting joint maritime missions. This focus on practical training is crucial for developing shared operational capabilities across the Mediterranean.
