UN Platform Hears Niger Prime Minister Laud Algeria’s Role

Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine affirmed his country's resilience in the face of challenges, attributing its strength to the sacrifices of its people and the solidarity among Sahel nations, notably highlighting Algeria's sustained accompaniment. Speaking at the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Zeine specifically praised Algerian solidarity, stating that Niger stands firm because Algeria, as a neighboring and fraternal nation, chose to support it. This significant international acknowledgment underscores Algeria's role as a vital partner for stability and co-development in the Sahel region.

Prime Minister Zeine detailed that Algeria's support encompasses substantial investment in natural resource exploitation, including the Kafra project in northern Niger where exploratory drilling for the Kafra South-East 1 well began in August. This accompaniment also involves continuous support for Niger's defense system. The dynamic cooperation between Algeria and Niger extends across various critical sectors such as health, education, energy, water resources, and agriculture. As part of enhancing energy infrastructure, Algeria has contributed to the construction of a 40-megawatt power plant in Niamey, further strengthening Niger's capabilities.

Beyond bilateral frameworks, the collaboration between the two nations extends to structured regional projects of significant scope. These include the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, connecting Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria, and the Trans-Saharan Road. This comprehensive engagement reflects historical ties founded on brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation, particularly in strategic domains crucial for development, stability, and regional integration, positioning Algeria as a strong link in the Sahel.
