UN General Assembly: Algeria Backs Sahrawi Self-Determination

Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, met with Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussions focused on the latest developments concerning the Western Sahara issue, particularly the ongoing UN process aimed at achieving a political settlement.

During the meeting, Minister Attaf reaffirmed Algeria's firm and principled commitment to the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. He underscored Algeria's view that this fundamental right forms the essential basis for any just and lasting political resolution to the conflict. Algeria's stance aligns with the principles of the UN Charter and relevant international resolutions.

Minister Attaf further reiterated Algeria's unwavering support for the United Nations' efforts to advance the settlement process. These efforts are geared towards enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, which Algeria regards as the core of the Sahrawi issue and the cornerstone of any equitable and enduring political solution.
