Attaf, Polisario Head Discuss Western Sahara in New York

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf met with Mohamed Yeslam Beissat, the Polisario’s diplomatic head, in New York on Sunday. The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the discussions addressed the latest developments concerning the Western Sahara issue.

The meeting specifically focused on the updates within the United Nations process. This process aims to achieve a just and lasting political solution that upholds the undeniable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, in line with pertinent United Nations resolutions.

During the encounter, Mr. Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering support for the just cause of the Sahrawi people and their inherent right to self-determination. He emphasized that this right forms the pivotal foundation for any fair and enduring political settlement, consistent with the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.

This diplomatic engagement followed recent political statements regarding Algeria's potential involvement in the resolution of the Western Sahara issue.
