Advancing E-Payment Systems: Coordination Meeting to Discuss New Incentive Measures

Algiers – A coordination meeting was held on Thursday at the Ministry of Finance to examine a series of proposed incentive measures aimed at advancing electronic payment systems in Algeria.

Chaired by Minister of Finance Laaziz Faid, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Karim Bibi Triki, and Governor of the Bank of Algeria Salah Eddine Taleb, the meeting focused on two main topics: reviewing proposed incentive measures and assessing the implementation of the institutional roadmap for the development of e-payments, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance.

In his opening remarks, Minister Faid highlighted the importance of swiftly addressing this issue, emphasizing that it aligns with national priorities set by the President of the Republic. He stressed the need for increased cooperation among all relevant parties to meet the established goals.

During the meeting, the General Director of Taxes presented a summary of the proposed incentive measures aimed at promoting the use of electronic payment methods. Representatives from the General Directorate of Treasury and Accounting also delivered a presentation on the progress made in implementing the institutional roadmap for e-payment development within the financial sector.

This presentation provided an opportunity to evaluate both achievements and the challenges that need to be overcome to ensure widespread and successful adoption of e-payments in the short term, according to the statement.

Participants emphasized the critical importance of balancing the availability and effective use of electronic payment systems. Achieving this balance is essential to meet the broader objective of financial inclusion and to ensure that all citizens have access to these modern and secure services, the statement added.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Finance underscored the need to mobilize all available resources and tools to ensure the success of the institutional roadmap for developing e-payments and to achieve the anticipated results.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of all stakeholders to expedite the implementation of the measures outlined in the roadmap, reiterating that the development of electronic payments is a crucial step in modernizing the financial system and advancing the economy.
