International Theatre Festival in Bejaia: Salah Eddine Triki’s Play “L’Hawawi” Captivates the Audience

Bejaia – The play “L’Hawawi,” adapted from Anton Chekhov’s Russian work “The Swan Song,” and produced by the Constantine Regional Theatre, succeeded in drawing significant attention during its performance on Saturday evening. The play, part of the third day of the International Theatre Festival in Bejaia, impressed the audience with its powerful script and the outstanding performances of the cast.

Written for the stage by Salah Eddine Triki, “L’Hawawi” tells the story of a talented artist whose career has taken a tragic turn. Once celebrated, he ultimately loses his audience and his passion for creativity, sinking into alcoholism and despair. Torn between longing for his lost past and his inability to confront his present failures, the artist contemplates ending his life and ultimately chooses to commit suicide.

The brilliant performance of Jamal Mezouari in the lead role of L’Hawawi, along with his co-stars Salah Eddine Triki and Kamal Eddine Farad, was key to the play’s success, captivating the audience and leaving a lasting impression.

The play had already garnered praise from audiences during its Friday performance at the House of Culture, and the same enthusiastic reception was repeated during Saturday’s show on the stage of the Abdelmalek Bouguermouh Theatre.
