Rabat – Moroccan activists staged protests in front of the Parliament in Rabat on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, to express solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and condemn the genocide committed by the Israeli military in Gaza and the normalization of ties between Morocco and Israel. The demonstration also denounced the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
The protest, organized by the National Action Group for Palestine (a non-governmental organization), was held under the slogan “Normalization is Partnership in the Gaza Camps Holocaust.” The participants voiced their support for Palestinian resilience in Gaza and across all of Palestine, demanding an immediate halt to the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
Condemnation of Genocide and Forced Displacement
The protesters strongly denounced what they described as the “genocide” being carried out by the terrorist Israeli military against civilians in Gaza. They specifically condemned the massacres in northern Gaza, such as those targeting Jabalia Refugee Camp, which they said are part of a plan to implement forced displacement.
Chants filled the air during the protest, with participants calling for the end of normalization and denouncing the crimes of the Israeli occupation and American support for it. Some of the prominent slogans included:
- “Down with normalization… Palestine is not for sale!”
- “Palestine is a trust, normalization is betrayal!”
- “The people demand an end to normalization!”
- “Crush Zionism and the Americans underfoot!”
- “America and Israel are enemies of the people!”
- “Gaza, Gaza, symbol of pride!”
- “Despite the bombing and destruction, Gaza will remain free!”
- “We stand with steadfast Jabalia!”
Continued Protests Across Morocco
Demonstrators also carried banners with messages such as:
- “No Nakba after the flood, no normalization with aggression!”
- “Normalization is complicity in the genocide at Gaza camps!”
- “The Moroccan people demand the dissolution of the shameful Israeli-Moroccan parliamentary group… Normalization is a crime of treason.”
- “From Jerusalem to Beirut, the resistance will never die.”
This protest is part of a continuous wave of public demonstrations across Morocco, showing widespread opposition to Israeli aggression and solidarity with Palestine. Activists have been organizing near-daily events condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza since October 7, 2023, with citizens participating in a remarkable 5,800 demonstrations and 730 marches in various parts of the country over the past year.
A Solidarity Movement of Unprecedented Scale
According to the Moroccan Organization for Supporting the Nation’s Causes, the scale of solidarity exhibited by Moroccans has been described as a “historic and unprecedented show of support” for the Palestinian people. The ongoing protests reflect the deep-rooted anti-normalization sentiment in Morocco and the public’s rejection of Israeli crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.
