Algiers – The President of the People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Bougali, met with Algerian startup founders participating in a training program in Seoul, South Korea, during his official visit to the country. The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of his visit, was announced in a statement from the Assembly on Thursday.
According to the statement, the meeting included 19 young entrepreneurs and was attended by the Algerian Ambassador to South Korea along with members of the parliamentary delegation accompanying Bougali. The gathering provided an opportunity to explore the diverse backgrounds of the startups, their areas of specialization, and the objectives and framework of the training program.
Bougali: Knowledge-Based Economy a Strategic Priority
In his speech, Bougali emphasized that the startup ecosystem and the knowledge economy are no longer mere concepts but tangible realities, driven by the political vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting startups to help them become key players in Algeria’s economic diversification, moving away from reliance on hydrocarbons and rentier economy toward a knowledge-driven model.
He stressed the importance of investing in startups, noting that improvements in the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem have significantly boosted Algeria’s ranking at the continental level in terms of startup development.
Learning from Global Leaders in the Startup Ecosystem
Bougali urged the entrepreneurs to embrace challenges and drive meaningful change that contributes to Algeria’s economic progress. He also emphasized the need to learn from the experiences of leading countries in the startup sector, such as South Korea, the United States, and China.
According to the statement, the participating entrepreneurs expressed their gratitude for the government’s support and President Tebboune’s forward-looking vision for the knowledge economy. They praised the government’s efforts in fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation, which is vital for Algeria’s future economic growth.
