Algiers, October 27, 2024 – The eighth edition of the Lamassat International Symposium of Visual Arts officially opened on Sunday in Algiers, aiming to foster cultural exchange and collaboration among Algerian and international artists, while enriching their artistic experiences.
Held at the Moufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture until October 31, the event carries the theme: “Artworks Reflecting History and Identity”, aligning with the 70th anniversary of the Algerian Revolution. The symposium is organized by the Lamassat Association for Visual Arts from the province of Khenchela, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Arts.
This year’s edition features the participation of 45 visual artists from 16 countries, including several Algerian artists from various provinces and 32 international artists from countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Turkey, Iran, Palestine, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Oman, and Libya, according to Fouad Belaâ, the president of the Lamassat Association.
The event began with art and creative workshops at the Palace of Culture, where participants will spend three days creating works inspired by their imaginations, local Algerian landscapes, and the cultural heritage of their respective countries. Following these workshops, the artists will collaborate on large murals depicting the history and events of the Algerian liberation struggle, in a spirit of skill exchange and shared artistic techniques.
In addition to the artistic activities, the symposium will host several thematic conferences on artistic values. Topics include art therapy, presented by Najla Ben Danambri, and discussions on aesthetic values and the art market in the Arab world, with contributions from prominent figures such as Nassreddine Douadi from Algeria, Adel Abdel Rahman from Egypt, Baeti Holsman from Ireland, and Hamadi Beniya from Tunisia.
Since its establishment in 2016 by the Lamassat Association, the symposium has served as a platform for cross-cultural dialogue between artists from different parts of the world and has played a key role in promoting Algeria’s artistic heritage on the international stage.
