President Tebboune Oversees Grand Military Parade Marking 70th Anniversary of Algeria’s Liberation Revolution

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, presided over a grand military parade on Friday, organized by the National People’s Army to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the November 1 Revolution. This event was a showcase of Algeria’s military prowess and a tribute to the heroes of the nation’s liberation struggle, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense.

The parade, held on National Road 11 near the Great Mosque of Algiers, was attended by honored guests, including the Presidents of Tunisia, Mauritania, and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, as well as the head of Libya’s Presidential Council. Representatives from other allied and friendly countries also participated, highlighting Algeria’s regional and international ties.

The Parade’s Distinguished Attendees

Lieutenant General Saïd Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army, welcomed President Tebboune upon his arrival. Attending the event were senior government and military officials, such as the President of the Council of the Nation, the President of the People’s National Assembly, the President of the Constitutional Court, the Prime Minister, and members of the government. The Commander of the Republican Guard, military branch leaders, and other top officials, as well as representatives from Algeria’s revolutionary legacy and the diplomatic community, were also present.

Ceremony Highlights

The ceremony began with President Tebboune, accompanied by Lieutenant General Chengriha, inspecting the assembled military formations to the sound of military bands. In honor of the historic occasion, a 70-gun salute marked the anniversary, followed by the national anthem.

In his address, President Tebboune congratulated the Algerian people on this monumental anniversary and praised the National People’s Army for their dedication to safeguarding Algeria’s security and stability. He highlighted that “this national occasion, filled with pride and honor, is a reminder that Algeria, victorious over colonialism, confidently continues its journey of success thanks to the sons and daughters loyal to the legacy of our martyrs.”

He extended his tribute to the National People’s Army and all security forces stationed at the borders and beyond, defending Algeria’s land, airspace, and waters, and committed to preserving the nation’s sovereignty and security. He reiterated that the army’s mission is defensive, designed solely to protect Algeria’s sovereignty and contribute to global peace, aligned with Algeria’s constitutional and international commitments.

Parade Showcases Army’s Capabilities

After President Tebboune’s address, the parade officially commenced. It began with formations of the Republican Guard’s musical ensemble and cavalry, followed by symbolic units of veterans, cadets, and military school representatives. Units from the National Police, Civil Protection, and Customs Directorate also participated.

The display continued with Algeria’s land combat vehicles, featuring tanks, mechanized infantry vehicles, various artillery types, advanced air defense systems, and specialized engineering vehicles for support, bridging, and medical assistance. The Gendarmerie National’s motorcycle units added further diversity to the formations.

Algeria’s air capabilities were also on full display over Algiers Bay, as tactical transport aircraft, fighter jets, reconnaissance planes, and helicopters performed aerial maneuvers, showcasing their role in air mobility, reconnaissance, and search-and-rescue operations.

The celebration concluded with a vibrant performance by paratroopers from the National Military Parachuting Team, followed by naval displays along Algiers Bay featuring a variety of warships, including submarines, frigates, minesweepers, and search-and-rescue vessels, representing Algeria’s powerful and versatile naval capabilities.

The military parade closed with an impressive artistic performance by the Republican Guard’s Mazoud Band, providing a grand finale to a day honoring Algeria’s enduring spirit and commitment to its historical legacy.
