The second edition of the International Date Exhibition is set to take place from November 21 to 23 at the SAFEX Exhibition Palace in Algiers. The event will bring together over 180 exhibitors, including local and international stakeholders involved in the date industry.
Organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the exhibition will run under the theme: “Our Dates… Tradition and Sustainable Economy.”
A Hub for Industry Collaboration
In a press conference held in Algiers, Mohamed Yazid Hanbali, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, highlighted the significance of this event. He noted that the exhibition aims to unite producers, storage providers, packagers, exporters, processors, and local artisans, alongside participants from countries such as Tunisia, Libya, and Turkey.
The exhibition provides a platform for stakeholders to network, share expertise, and tackle challenges to enhance the growth of the date sector. Hanbali emphasized its role in fostering competition, improving product quality, and promoting exports.
Opportunities for Promotion and Innovation
The exhibition offers exhibitors the opportunity to showcase dates, derivative products, and associated technologies to a diverse audience. Consumers will also have the chance to learn about the rich variety of Algerian dates and the importance of preserving this agricultural heritage.
For international visitors and local participants, the event facilitates exchange and collaboration to boost the global presence of Algerian dates. Additionally, the exhibition will feature research presentations from experts and specialists in the field, further highlighting innovative practices and the sector’s economic potential.
Economic Significance of the Date Industry
Dates represent Algeria’s leading agricultural product in the southern regions, with over 19 million palm trees cultivated nationwide. According to Hanbali, date production increased significantly between 2021 and 2023, surpassing 11.5 million quintals.
Algeria remains a global leader in date production, particularly in terms of quality and diversity. However, the development of downstream industries, mechanization, and modern marketing and packaging methods are critical to unlocking the sector’s full potential.
The government’s roadmap for advancing the sector includes planting an additional one million palm trees. Achieving this ambitious goal, Hanbali stressed, requires the active participation of all stakeholders.
