New York (United Nations) – Arab Jakta, the current President of the United Nations International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) in New York, has been reappointed as a member of the UN Civil Service Commission for a second four-year term starting January 1, 2025.
This reappointment reflects the recognition and appreciation of Jakta’s significant contributions and efforts since assuming the presidency of the ICSC. He will continue to serve as the Commission’s President until December 31, 2026, while his membership in the Civil Service Commission is extended until 2029.
A Distinguished Career in Diplomacy
Ambassador Arab Jakta has held numerous positions within Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, as well as in international missions. His most notable role has been serving as President of the International Civil Service Commission, an independent expert body established by the UN General Assembly in 1974.
The Role of the International Civil Service Commission
Since its inception, the ICSC has worked to uphold high standards in the international civil service, ensuring balance between the needs of key stakeholders and the principles of fairness and efficiency. The Commission comprises 15 members appointed by the UN General Assembly for four-year terms.
This reappointment not only highlights Jakta’s exemplary leadership but also underscores Algeria’s influential role in international governance.
