Sonatrach: Mr. Hachichi Inspects “Alrar” Gas Plant After Last Wednesday’s Incident

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the CEO of Sonatrach, Mr. Rashid Hachichi, visited the “Alrar” gas processing plant, located in the surface production area of El Oued province, to follow up on the field measures taken in response to the incident that occurred last Wednesday. The incident, which took place at production line number 1 of the plant, resulted in no human casualties, according to a statement from the company.

According to the statement, Mr. Hachichi began his visit by inspecting the affected site at production line number 1, where he was given a detailed technical briefing outlining “the steps that have been taken to mitigate the impact of the incident.”

The briefing also covered the “measures implemented to completely isolate this line from the other three production lines at the Alrar gas processing plant and to ensure operational stability at the facility,” the statement added.

During the visit, Mr. Hachichi closely monitored the situation and was briefed on the efforts to restore normal operations. He urged the “team of experts tasked with the investigation to conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the cause of the fire,” according to the statement.

Afterward, Mr. Hachichi held a meeting with the plant’s management and the technical teams working on-site, focusing on “evaluating the effectiveness of the measures taken and the action plan for restarting the other three lines at the plant,” the statement continued.

In the meeting, Mr. Hachichi emphasized the importance of “strict adherence” to safety standards and their application at every stage of operations. He praised the quick response of the on-site teams and their efficiency in handling the incident, stressing that the safety of workers and installations remains the company’s top priority.

The CEO also underscored the need to enhance training programs for crisis management and ensure that all necessary resources are available to maintain operational safety.

Additionally, Mr. Hachichi met with the workers at the surface production area, where he “encouraged them and urged them to meet the challenge of completing the inspection of the facilities shared between the four production lines in preparation for the successful restart of the three unaffected lines in the coming days,” as stated by the company.
