The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Said Saioud, chaired a coordination meeting today, Tuesday, at the Government Palace, via videoconference with the governors of the republic. The meeting was devoted to following up on the progress of the harvest and threshing campaign and assessing the readiness of the different provinces to ensure the success of this strategic national operation.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister stressed that the harvest and threshing campaign is receiving special and close attention from the President of the Republic, given its direct link to the battle to strengthen national food security. Saioud pointed out that achieving the target of collecting more than 50 million quintals of cereals requires broad mobilization and the effective involvement of all field actors, under the direct supervision of the governors.
As part of field monitoring, the Minister of Interior issued a series of strict instructions and operational directives to the governors. The most important of these include maintaining a constant presence at harvesting, collection and storage sites, and immediately reporting any technical or logistical obstacles. He also instructed the establishment of permanent monitoring units in each province, working in real-time coordination with the national unit to exchange data and statistics on a regular basis.
Saioud also called for maximum use of storage facilities belonging to both the public and private sectors, as well as the mobilization of trucks and transport means to ensure the rapid transfer of crops. He also emphasized the need to put in place a coordination plan that allows equipment and surplus harvesting resources to be transferred to provinces experiencing delays, while making use of storage capacities in neighboring provinces.
The minister further stressed the need to raise the level of vigilance and anticipation in order to protect crops from fires, weather disturbances and thunderstorms, while mobilizing all preventive intervention resources. He also called for the immediate submission of field reports in coordination with the national unit established at the level of the Prime Minister’s Office, to ensure that appropriate decisions are taken at the right time.
During the meeting, detailed presentations were also delivered by the governors of the republic. They reviewed the progress rates achieved on the ground in their provinces, the quantities of cereals collected, the storage capacities already used and still available, as well as the preventive measures taken to secure the harvest.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Interior reaffirmed that his ministerial departments will continue, through the governors, to ensure close monitoring and well-structured coordination. This aims to guarantee the strict implementation of the directives of the country’s highest authorities, in order to win the challenge of agricultural production and protect the food supply of Algerians.
