AFCON 2024: Algeria Women’s National Team Continues Preparations in Sidi Moussa

Algiers – December 2, 2024 – The Algeria Women’s National Football Team continued their preparations for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (delayed to 2025) with a training session on Sunday at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa, following their second friendly match against Uganda. The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025.

In their first friendly match against Uganda, the Algerian team secured a 2-0 victory last Saturday at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida. According to the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), the Sunday training session saw the participation of all players, under the supervision of head coach Farid Benstiti, who focused on various drills, including running, flexibility, and balance exercises.

The FAF also mentioned that in the afternoon, the players were given a rest by the coaching staff, and the training camp is set to conclude with a final session scheduled for Monday at the same facility.

The Algerian women’s team has been drawn into Group B of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Botswana. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, with the two best third-placed teams also qualifying.

This marks the return of the national women’s team to the continental competition, after missing the last two editions. They secured their spot in the final tournament in December 2023, after defeating Burundi 5-1 at home and 1-0 away in the qualification matches, held at the 5 July Olympic Stadium in Algiers.
