Global Forum Ranks Algeria 'Largely Compliant' on Tax Transparency
Algeria has been recognized as 'largely compliant' with international fiscal transparency standards by the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. This new global ranking reflects progress in the country's legal and institutional framework and its practical implementation.

Algeria has received a classification of 'largely compliant' with international standards for tax transparency and information exchange from the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, an entity associated with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This assessment marks an important recognition of the advancements made in Algeria's legal and institutional frameworks concerning fiscal transparency and their effective application, reflecting positively on the nation's financial governance image.
The General Directorate of Taxes, under the Ministry of Finance, led the assessment efforts in coordination with various ministerial sectors and public entities. The published report reviews Algeria's legal framework, which remains valid until August 12, 2026, and evaluates its practical implementation between January 1, 2022, and June 30, 2025. Algeria joined the Global Forum in 2021, and this classification follows an initial assessment that focused on the country's legal and institutional provisions.
The evaluation highlighted Algeria's significant progress through legislative, regulatory, and operational reforms aimed at bolstering fiscal transparency. Specifically, the report commended the establishment of a legal and institutional system that generally ensures access to and exchange of information for tax purposes. Further progress in the practical application of international standards was noted, particularly Algeria’s ratification of the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters and the creation of an International Information Exchange Unit in October 2024. These measures have broadened the scope of international tax cooperation and enhanced Algeria's operational capabilities in this domain. This recognition represents a crucial step in aligning Algeria's national system with global standards for fiscal transparency, contributing to the fight against tax fraud, evasion, and illicit financial flows.
