South Korean Companies Eye Algerian Investment Opportunities

The Algerian-Korean Economic Forum, recently convened in Algiers, served as a pivotal event to bolster economic partnerships and investments between Algeria and South Korea, with a particular focus on priority sectors. Organized jointly by the South Korean Embassy in Algiers and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), alongside the Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion (AAPI) and the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the forum operated under the comprehensive theme of “Industrial Partnership between Algeria and Korea.” AAPI Director-General Omar Rekkache underscored the interest demonstrated by Korean companies in the Algerian market and the investment initiatives launched, viewing these as a robust foundation for initiating new projects that promise high added value.

These prospective projects are expected to significantly contribute to the advancement of industrial subcontracting, job creation, and the localization of technology within Algeria. Mr. Rekkache specifically identified the automotive industry and its components, chemical industries, and industrial equipment and machinery as key areas poised for enhancing industrial integration and broadening partnership horizons between Algerian and Korean economic entities. He further highlighted that South Korea's established industrial and technological expertise, coupled with Algeria's substantial investment potential, collectively provide an ideal framework for fostering a sustainable economic and industrial partnership.

The AAPI Director-General detailed Algeria's ongoing reforms and adopted measures aimed at cultivating an improved investment climate and a dynamic, attractive business environment. He affirmed the agency's readiness to actively assist Korean investors by spotlighting available investment opportunities and streamlining their interactions with pertinent stakeholders, thereby facilitating the successful realization of their projects. Additionally, the AAPI is dedicated to reinforcing collaboration with KOTRA through the exchange of information and expertise, as well as by promoting direct engagements between businesses from both nations. This concerted effort is geared towards advancing mutual interests, nurturing national competencies, and ultimately elevating the competitiveness of Algerian industry.
