Algiers Book Fair Stand Gathers Palestine Support

The 29th Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) served as a platform for the Palestinian Embassy to showcase its cultural presence, drawing significant public attention and emotional support. Visitors to the Palestinian stand frequently posed the question, "How do we go to Palestine?", a sentiment that captured the deep solidarity and emotional attachment of the Algerian people to the Palestinian cause. This exceptional participation by the Palestinian Embassy reaffirmed the profound historical and fraternal bonds deeply rooted between Algeria and Palestine.

Under the management of Sherif Al-Sabbagh, the Palestinian Embassy's stand underscored the enduring commitment of both the Algerian government and its people to these ties. Algeria consistently ensures a strong Palestinian presence at its major national and international cultural events, diligently working to highlight Palestinian cultural and historical identity and integrate Palestinians residing within Algeria. Despite severe challenges faced by Palestinian writers and novelists, including repeated closures and the ongoing siege on Palestinian territories preventing personal participation for the fourth consecutive year, the Embassy ensured the Palestinian spirit remained present at the exhibition.

To overcome these obstacles, the Embassy arranged a symbolic display featuring a curated selection of books and literary works, thereby maintaining its cultural message within the significant cultural event. The stand, designed for viewing and photography rather than sales, offered Algerian visitors an an intimate encounter with valuable intellectual and literary content. This miniature library, though limited in size, carried deep symbolic and historical weight, proudly displaying complete works by the acclaimed poet Mahmoud Darwish, texts by Jamal Salameh including "The Palestinian Struggle," masterpieces by Samih al-Qasim, and the "Encyclopedia of Palestinian Terms and Concepts" which preserves Palestinian dialect and heritage. The stand witnessed unparalleled public turnout and profound emotional interaction from Algerian visitors throughout the fair, who collectively expressed their heartfelt solidarity with Palestine.
