Algiers Book Fair Concludes Saudi Cultural Program

The Saudi cultural program, a highlight of Saudi Arabia's participation as guest of honor at the Algiers International Book Fair 2026, has officially concluded. The program culminated in a specialized conference focused on the Arab Translation Observatory, an event organized by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission.

This concluding conference, presented by Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Sanan, explored the pivotal role of the Arab Translation Observatory. The Observatory operates as a joint initiative of the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission in partnership with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO). Its primary objectives include enhancing the global presence of Arabic translation, meticulously monitoring translation activities both to and from the Arabic language, and making relevant data accessible to researchers, translators, and cultural institutions to support their work.

During the conference, Dr. Al-Sanan highlighted the Observatory's knowledge services, including its interactive stand and digital platform, which provide comprehensive bibliographies of translated books across the Arab world, alongside extensive databases of publishers and translators. Discussions further emphasized the critical importance of documenting Arabic translation movements, utilizing data for research, and actively shaping the future of translation within the Arab sphere. The event underscored the value of collaborative monitoring in building a robust knowledge base to enrich the Arab cultural and translation landscape.
