Algeria established a distinguished cultural and artistic presence at the third edition of the African Exhibition of Cultural and Creative Industries (CANEX WKND 2026), held in Lagos, Nigeria, from November 5 to 8, 2026. The Ministry of Culture and Arts led the Algerian participation, aiming to highlight the nation's rich cultural heritage and its diverse creative elements.
The Algerian pavilion at the exhibition garnered significant attention from visitors and participating delegations. It featured authentic examples of Algerian Zellige and ceramic art, alongside a variety of traditional industry products that showcased the skills of artisans from across the country. Additionally, a photographic exhibition documented important historical landmarks and sites, both nationally and internationally classified, emphasizing the depth and civilizational value of Algeria's heritage.
Algeria's presence also extended to the artistic and creative program of the event, with participation in the Music Lab. The Algeria Opera Ballet troupe presented traditional dance performances, introducing African audiences to the diverse dances and traditional kinetic expressions inherent in Algerian culture. Notably, the "Boualem Bessaïh" Algeria Opera Ballet performed a traditional Boussada wedding scene during the second day of CANEX 2026 at the National Theatre in Lagos. This artistic display, which blended dance movements with Nayli music, was met with warm applause and significant audience interaction, reflecting appreciation for Algeria's authentic artistic heritage. This multi-faceted participation underscores Algeria's commitment to valuing its civilizational legacy, promoting its cultural and artistic creations, and enhancing its role within the African cultural landscape, thereby fostering broader cooperation and creative exchange across the continent.
