Relizane University Honors 1961 Paris Massacre Victims

The University of Relizane's academic community commemorated the October 17, 1961 massacres in Paris, aligning with Presidential Decree No. 21-392. Issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on October 16, 2021, this decree mandates an annual minute of silence on October 17 across Algeria and its diplomatic missions to honor the victims. The event was observed on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

Supervised by University Secretary-General Mr. Bouzar Rachid, acting on behalf of University Director Professor Tayeb Jaafari, the commemoration took place at Martyr Ahmed Zabana Square. The ceremony included raising the national flag, playing the national anthem, observing a minute of silence, and reciting Al-Fatiha for the martyrs. The chosen theme for this year's commemoration was "From the Depth of Memory to the Horizons of the Future."

Professor Dr. Mokaddem Mohamed, Vice-Director of Higher Education, Continuing Education, and Certificates, delivered a speech on behalf of the University Director. He emphasized the historical significance of the massacres within Algeria's trajectory of heroism and sacrifices. This event serves to reinforce the national historical memory by honoring those victims of "colonial treachery" who were reportedly killed and thrown into the Seine River.
