JICC 2026 in Constantine Explored Precision Oncology, Patient Care

From October 8–10, 2026, the city of Constantine served as the host for the 22nd Journées Internationales de Cancérologie de Constantine (JICC) and the 2nd Forum Kamel Bouzid d’Oncologie (FKBO). This significant gathering at the Hôtel Marriott Constantine brought together Algerian and international oncology professionals to advance discussions in cancer care. The event was collaboratively organized by the Medical Oncology Department of EH Didouche Mourad Constantine, the Société Algérienne de Formation Continue en Cancérologie (SAFCC), and the Oncologica association, with Pr. Assia Bensalem, President of the Organizing Committee, at the helm.

JICC 2026 focused on “Oncologie de précision: de la théorie à la pratique quotidienne,” addressing precision oncology from theory to everyday practice. Concurrently, the FKBO explored “Soins de support, soins complets,” emphasizing supportive care as complete care. These two themes, addressed under one roof, underscored a unified approach: molecular precision and comprehensive patient care are integrated components of modern oncology, rather than separate priorities. The program highlighted that progress in cancer treatment necessitates attention to both innovative science and holistic patient support.

The scientific agenda featured prominent international faculty who contributed to a forward-looking dialogue. Pr. Taha Merghoub, Deputy Director of the Meyer Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, delivered a keynote on understanding and overcoming resistance to cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Aldo Venuti from Italy's IRCCS Regina Elena National Cancer Institute presented on circulating HPV DNA testing, illustrating emerging precision diagnostics in gynecological cancers. Additionally, Dr. Djamel Ghebriou of AP-HP Sorbonne Université, Hôpital Tenon, Paris, discussed oncogeriatrics as a model of personalized medicine, advocating for treatment tailored to a patient's functional status, comorbidities, and personal goals, particularly for older individuals.

By presenting precision science and comprehensive, accessible care as intertwined conversations, JICC 2026 established a valuable template for future oncology discussions. The continued commitment to these critical areas is further affirmed with the announcement of the 23rd JICC and 3rd FKBO for next year, signalling ongoing efforts to foster advanced cancer care practices and collaboration in Algeria.
