Aïn Defla – Renowned Algerian novelist Wassini Al-Araj presented the second volume of his work on Emir Abdelkader, titled “Stranger in Exile: The Book of the Emir II,” during a literary event in Miliana, Aïn Defla province, on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, organized by the cultural association “Friends of Miliana” at the “Mahfoud Tawahri” Municipal Theater, Al-Araj described Emir Abdelkader as “one of the most significant figures of the 19th century on a global scale.”
The author emphasized that Emir Abdelkader was not just a military leader who resisted French colonialism for 17 years but also a “thinker, mystic, intellectual, and a man of dialogue who rejected isolation.”
Al-Araj highlighted the Emir’s role as a symbol of “religious and intellectual tolerance,” adding that it is essential to showcase these traits and position Emir Abdelkader within a global context, particularly through creative works that explore his life and legacy.
The novel narrates the Emir’s journey from France to his settlement in Damascus, Syria, where he lived until his death. Al-Araj noted that the Emir’s strength lay in his openness to dialogue, always armed with reason and logic to persuade others.
The literary event concluded with a book-signing session, drawing numerous attendees interested in literature and history.
