The 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards ceremony took place on Monday evening, celebrating excellence in African football. Nigerian star Ademola Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Italy, was crowned the Best African Player, while the Ivory Coast national team won the award for Best National Team.
Individual Honors
Ademola Lookman triumphed in the Best Player category, beating strong contenders including Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi, Brighton’s Simon Adingra, Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy, and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
Ronwen Williams, however, did not leave empty-handed. He was named the Best Player Based in Africa and also secured the title of Best Goalkeeper of the Year.
Team and Coaching Accolades
The Ivory Coast national team was recognized as the Best National Team following their victory at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, held on home soil earlier this year. Their head coach, Emerse Faé, received the award for Best Coach of the Year.
Club and Youth Achievements
Al Ahly of Egypt, winners of the latest CAF Champions League, was named the Best African Club. Senegalese player Lamine Camara won the award for Best Young Player, while Angolan forward Cristóvão Mabululu received the award for Best Goal.
