Vehicle Importation Continues as Kia Factory Set to Resume Production

The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Sifi Ghrib, has reaffirmed that the process of importing vehicles has been ongoing since the beginning of 2023.

In a written response to MP Farida Djebali, the minister stated that vehicle importation is progressing through 24 licensed dealers, with 227,232 vehicles expected to enter the national market.

Local Manufacturing Developments

Minister Ghrib also revealed that 36 applications for vehicle manufacturing licenses have been submitted via the designated digital platform. These applications have resulted in several approvals for the production of various types of vehicles, including passenger cars, light utility vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, buses, agricultural tractors, and trailers.

Additionally, the minister confirmed that new brands will soon receive approval under the existing regulatory framework.

Kia Factory Revival

Regarding the Kia factory in Batna, the minister highlighted efforts to make use of operational manufacturing facilities, including those recently reclaimed by the state and reassigned to public enterprises.

He assured that all relevant sectors are working together to implement the necessary measures to integrate the Kia factory into the new vehicle production strategy, ensuring it resumes operations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
