Algiers – A terrorist surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, while nine individuals accused of supporting terrorist groups were arrested between December 11 and 17, according to an operational report from the National People’s Army (ANP) released on Thursday.
The statement emphasized that “as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of the National People’s Army conducted numerous operations during this period. These efforts resulted in significant outcomes, reflecting the high professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our armed forces across the national territory.”
In the fight against terrorism, and thanks to the efforts of ANP units, a terrorist identified as Ben Khia Kouali, known as “Khazim,” surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar within the Sixth Military Region. The individual was found in possession of a Kalashnikov rifle, ammunition, and other items. Additionally, nine supporters of terrorist groups were arrested in various operations nationwide.
Organized Crime Combat
The statement also highlighted efforts to combat organized crime, particularly drug trafficking. Joint detachments of the ANP, in coordination with various security services, arrested 65 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 134 kilograms of processed cannabis across the Moroccan border. Additionally, 1,710 grams of cocaine and 376,917 psychotropic tablets were seized during separate operations.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and In Guezzam, ANP detachments arrested 515 individuals and seized 56 vehicles, 344 generators, 200 jackhammers, and 8 metal detectors. They also confiscated quantities of raw gold ore, explosives, and equipment used for illegal gold mining.
Other operations led to the arrest of 19 individuals and the seizure of 13 hunting rifles, one automatic pistol, 102,130 liters of fuel, 19 quintals of tobacco, and 28 tons of food products intended for smuggling and speculation.
Illegal Migration Prevention
Meanwhile, Coast Guard units thwarted attempts at illegal migration along the national coastline, rescuing 88 individuals aboard makeshift boats. Additionally, 395 illegal migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country.
These operations reflect the army’s commitment to national security and stability.
