Cairo – The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly condemned the Israeli occupation’s burning of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, which resulted in the death of medical staff and patients. He described these actions as an “unprecedented act of dehumanization.”
In a statement released on Saturday by his spokesperson, Gamal Rushdi, Aboul Gheit emphasized that the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in Gaza “will not go unpunished and remain a permanent stain on the conscience of the international community for its silence.”
The Secretary-General remarked that targeting the hospital, its staff, and its prolonged siege is “a blatant disregard for all established global conventions governing warfare.” He further stated that the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, including children freezing to death and medical workers being burned alive, represent the most horrific stage of this aggression. He warned that the international community’s inaction would lead to the collapse of the international humanitarian law framework.
On Friday, Israeli forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital after besieging it for hours. They set fire to its facilities, mistreated patients, injured individuals, and medical staff, and detained several people. Others were forcibly stripped and evacuated into the freezing cold amidst heavy gunfire and bombardment surrounding the area.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has carried out devastating attacks on Gaza, resulting in over 45,000 deaths, more than 108,000 injuries, and a humanitarian catastrophe. The violence has displaced more than 85% of Gaza’s population, approximately 1.9 million people, creating an unprecedented crisis.
