Occupied Jerusalem – On Monday, Israeli settlers stormed the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, performing Talmudic rituals as part of repeated incursions aimed at Judaizing the site and imposing temporal and spatial division, as reported by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).
Increased Military Restrictions
Local sources confirmed that several settlers entered the mosque courtyards under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, while strict restrictions were imposed on Muslim worshipers seeking to access Al-Aqsa. The Israeli military heightened security measures around the mosque’s gates, as well as throughout the Old City of Jerusalem.
Context of Rising Tensions
This latest incursion comes amid calls from extremist groups such as the so-called “Temple Mount Groups” to escalate these raids during a Jewish holiday, which is expected to last until the end of this week.
Since the beginning of the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, Israeli forces have increased their military presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque gates and Old City entrances. According to Jerusalem Governorate data, over 68,000 settlers have stormed the mosque compound during this period.
Exploiting Religious Holidays
The Israeli occupation uses Jewish holidays to exacerbate the suffering of Palestinians, particularly through the imposition of blockades, heightened military checkpoints, and obstructing access to religious sites.
