Algeria – Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, held phone conversations on Thursday with his counterparts from Tunisia, Mauritania, and Libya, as stated in a ministry communiqué.
During the calls, Minister Attaf extended New Year greetings to his colleagues, wishing them good health, prosperity, and greater development and integration for the Maghreb region.
The discussions also provided an opportunity to inform the Maghreb nations about Algeria’s work program as it assumes the presidency of the UN Security Council for January. The leaders consulted on several political issues of mutual interest.
In response, the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Mauritania, and Libya reciprocated the New Year wishes and expressed full support for Algeria’s leadership of the Security Council. They voiced optimism for Algeria’s success in this noble task, which aims to advance Arab and African causes and promote global peace and security.
They also commended Algeria’s efforts in the Security Council, particularly in light of the current international climate marked by escalating conflicts and divisions at regional and global levels, the communiqué added.
