Algerian Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Laid Rebika, highlighted the significant role of Ferhat Abbas, the first president of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic, in bringing the voice of Algeria’s revolution to the global stage. The commemoration of the 39th anniversary of Abbas’s death, held in Algiers on Thursday, served as an opportunity to reflect on his impactful journey and his contributions to the liberation movement.

Speaking on the sidelines of a historical symposium organized to mark the occasion, Minister Rebika emphasized the importance of such academic events. He noted that they shed light on key figures in Algeria’s history, such as Ferhat Abbas, and create a platform to explore their struggles and achievements.
Rebika urged the continuation of similar initiatives to cover Algeria’s broader historical context, including the popular resistance and national movement. These efforts aim to preserve Algeria’s history and impart its legacy to future generations.

Abdelhamid Selakdji, President of the May 8, 1945 Association, highlighted Abbas’s dedication to the Algerian cause. He pointed out Abbas’s extensive travels across the globe with members of the Provisional Government, which played a vital role in garnering international support for Algeria’s independence and underscoring the justice of its struggle.
3. A Lifelong Dedication
Hamza Awfi, Secretary-General of the National Organization of Mujahideen, praised Abbas’s lifelong commitment to the Algerian cause. He underlined Abbas’s exceptional representation of the Algerian Revolution abroad, especially during his tenure as president of the Provisional Government, effectively promoting the legitimacy of Algeria’s fight for freedom.
