Algiers – The Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Meziane, has cautioned against the dangers of relying on unofficial and dubious sources for information, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in this critical area.
In a lecture titled “The Ministry’s Media Policy in Addressing Challenges Impacting Domestic Stability,” delivered recently at the “Late President Ali Kafi” Higher War School and cited in the latest issue of El-Djeich magazine, the minister warned about “the risks of depending on unofficial and dubious sources, especially online platforms that may serve as tools for spreading rumors and distorting facts.”
Mr. Meziane stressed that accuracy is a fundamental value when dealing with information. He highlighted the risks posed by the digital space, which has become “an open field for negatively influencing societal cohesion.”
To address these challenges, the minister outlined the Ministry of Communication’s “comprehensive policy” aimed at strengthening the media system. This includes “producing meaningful media content that reflects Algeria as a victorious and strong state while defending national values.”
The policy also emphasizes the localization of online platforms and “modernizing and securing the communication sector’s infrastructure.”
In conclusion, the Minister of Communication underscored “the significant attention given by the state, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, to the media sector.” He highlighted ongoing efforts to “provide the necessary support for the industry” and stressed “the importance of enforcing strict regulatory mechanisms in compliance with existing laws in a world where media has become a central tool for defending the interests of nations and peoples.”
