Algiers – On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of Mining, Ms. Karima Tafer, held talks with Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, Mining, and Energy, Ms. Fatma Thabet Chaiboub. The discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the 4th International Mining Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, focused on ways to enhance cooperation between Algeria and Tunisia in the mining sector.
According to a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Renewable Energies, the meeting—also attended by the Chairman and CEO of Sonarem Group—reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation and explored avenues for further development, particularly in mining activities.
The two sides discussed strategies to strengthen collaboration and partnerships between companies from both nations. They also explored opportunities for knowledge-sharing, skill exchanges, and the implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects.
Both officials expressed a shared commitment to advancing cooperation in initiatives that promote sustainable development, especially in the exploration, exploitation, and processing of mineral resources. The talks reflected a mutual desire to align efforts for the growth of the mining sector in both Algeria and Tunisia.
This meeting underscores the importance of regional collaboration in leveraging natural resources to foster economic development and sustainable growth for the benefit of both nations.
