Washington – The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, announced that humanitarian agencies are mobilizing supplies to expand the delivery of aid across the Gaza Strip. This preparation comes in anticipation of the implementation of a ceasefire. Fletcher called on all parties involved to protect civilians and infrastructure, ensuring safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian workers and essential supplies to reach those in need.
The UN official urged the United Nations Security Council to leverage its collective influence to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire, respect for human rights, and the removal of obstacles hindering life-saving assistance.
In a related statement, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the United Nations, confirmed that the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) continues to receive reports of civilian casualties due to ongoing shelling in Gaza.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stepped in to address the medical crisis, evacuating 12 critically ill patients, along with approximately 30 accompanying family members, from Gaza for treatment. Most of the patients are suffering from life-threatening conditions such as cancer and immune system disorders.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, and the international community is intensifying efforts to address the urgent needs of the affected population. The success of these initiatives hinges on the cooperation of all parties and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
