Algeria and Italy Strengthen Cultural Cooperation: Ministers Hold Bilateral Talks

Algiers – Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Mr. Zouhir Ballou, held bilateral discussions on Thursday in Algiers with his Italian counterpart, Mr. Alessandro Giuli, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Algerian Ministry of Culture, focused on strengthening cooperation in various cultural fields of mutual interest, particularly in heritage preservation, research exchange, and the arts, according to a ministry statement.

Expanding Cultural Horizons

Minister Ballou described the meeting as an opportunity to open new avenues for cultural collaboration and exchanges between Algeria and Italy. He emphasized joint efforts in safeguarding, restoring, and promoting cultural heritage, as well as advancing shared interests in cinema, theater, literature, music, and visual arts.

The Minister also highlighted plans to implement a tailored theoretical and practical training program and to revive all stalled joint cultural projects. He praised the strong and historic ties between Algeria and Italy, emphasizing their potential for deeper collaboration across cultural sectors.

Italy’s Commitment to Collaboration

In his remarks, Minister Alessandro Giuli expressed Italy’s commitment to enriching the cultural landscape shared by the two nations. During his two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, Giuli noted that Algeria and Italy share a common vision for cultural development. He also underscored Italy’s readiness to work with Algeria to promote Algerian culture on the global stage.

Joint Cinematic and Heritage Initiatives

Both ministers discussed future projects, reaffirming the importance of the Algerian-Italian agreement on joint film production. Minister Ballou noted that Algeria is experiencing a significant revival in its film industry, particularly following the National Cinema Sessions led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Discussions also touched on intensifying efforts to protect and enhance cultural heritage and increasing its global value. Both sides emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise and knowledge in this vital area to support cultural sustainability.
