World Customs Organization Honors Algerian Customs Officials for Outstanding Efforts

Algiers – The World Customs Organization (WCO) has honored Algerian customs officials for their “outstanding” efforts in performing their duties. The recognition comes as part of celebrations marking International Customs Day, observed annually on January 26.

Certificates of Merit, signed by the Secretary-General of the WCO, were awarded to customs officers and teams who delivered “exceptional” work and achieved “notable results” during 2024.

The awards recognized excellence in various customs specializations, including monitoring activities focused on combating drug and arms trafficking, capital flight, internal auditing, IT systems, and training.

International Customs Day and 73rd WCO Anniversary

This year’s International Customs Day coincides with the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the World Customs Organization. Celebrations were held under the theme “Customs Delivering Commitments for Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity.”

The ceremony was attended by members of the Algerian government, senior state officials, customs leaders, and business organizations. General Abdelhafid Bekhouch, Director General of Customs, led the sector’s delegation during the event.

This recognition highlights Algeria’s role in strengthening global customs systems, ensuring security, and fostering economic development.
