Gaza – The Israeli occupation authorities began releasing a second group of 200 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to media reports.
Televised footage showed three buses carrying 114 freed prisoners arriving in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank. The release of 200 prisoners, including 80 exiled detainees, is planned as part of the agreement.
The Hamas Prisoner Affairs Office and the Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees announced the second list of prisoners freed in the first phase of the exchange deal. The list includes prisoners serving life sentences or long-term imprisonment.
Notable Releases and Key Figures
The list features 70 prisoners who have been exiled. Among them is Muhammad Al-Tous (Abu Shadi), known as the “Dean of Palestinian Prisoners.” Detained since 1985, Al-Tous is the longest-serving Palestinian prisoner and is set to be freed today after 39 years in Israeli prisons.
As part of the exchange deal, the Palestinian resistance released four female Israeli soldiers.
The prisoner exchange reflects ongoing efforts to implement the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which aims to address key humanitarian and political demands amidst the broader conflict in Gaza.
