Algiers – The Minister of Petroleum for the Republic of Niger, Sahabi Oumarou, commenced a working visit to Algeria on Sunday, leading a high-level delegation that includes the Nigerian Minister of Water Resources, Sanitation, and Environment, along with officials from the national petroleum company “Sonidap,” according to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy.
The Nigerian delegation was received upon arrival in Algeria by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of Renewable Energy, Noureddine Yassaa, as stated in the same source.
This visit aims to further enhance bilateral relations between Algeria and Niger in the hydrocarbons sector, following up on the roadmap agreed upon during the Nigerian minister’s previous visit to Algeria.
According to the statement, relations between the two countries in this domain have seen significant progress due to continuous cooperation and reciprocal visits between officials, aimed at strengthening bilateral partnerships and implementing joint development projects. Key initiatives include Sonatrach’s exploration activities in Niger, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project, and Algeria’s support for Niger’s projects related to constructing an oil refinery and petrochemical complex in the Dous region. Additionally, Algeria has been providing training and capacity-building programs for Nigerian personnel in the hydrocarbons sector.
The Nigerian Petroleum Minister’s visit agenda includes several important meetings, notably a session with the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, as well as discussions with senior officials from Sonatrach.
This visit underscores “the mutual commitment of Algeria and Niger to deepen their strategic cooperation in the energy sector and reaffirms both countries’ dedication to advancing joint projects that contribute to sustainable development for both parties,” as highlighted in the official statement.
