President Tebboune Participates in the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa – President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is currently participating in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Summit for Heads of State and Government.

The 38th AU Summit, spanning two days, focuses on “promoting justice and advocating for reparations for Africans,” representing a concrete step toward addressing historical wrongs and fostering recovery for the continent’s populations and people of African descent.

Participants in this African summit, which includes leaders from African nations alongside officials from several international, regional, and continental organizations, will discuss a range of initiatives aimed at redressing historical injustices caused by colonization, slavery, and systemic discrimination. These include historical recognition, financial reparations, land restitution, cultural preservation, political reform, international accountability, and community empowerment.

Notably, President Tebboune presided over the 34th Summit of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) for Heads of State and Government yesterday at the AU headquarters, in his capacity as Chair of the mechanism. On this occasion, he announced Algeria’s decision to contribute one million U.S. dollars as voluntary support for the African Peer Review Mechanism.
