
Algiers – The Algerian parliamentary delegation participating in the 2025 United Nations Parliamentary Hearing, held in New York on February 13-14, met with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Ms. Tulia Everton, to discuss several current international issues and enhance mutual parliamentary cooperation, according to a statement issued by the National People’s Assembly on Saturday.
The same source noted that the delegation included the Vice-President of the National People’s Assembly, Monther Boudene, along with MPs Ahmed Belgelil and Nabil Qand, as well as members of the Council of the Nation, Kamel Khalifati and Abdelrahman Qanshuba. During the meeting, Mr. Boudene praised “the efforts made by the organization to strengthen multilateral parliamentary cooperation, as it is the oldest international parliamentary body.”
The discussion focused on “the challenges facing international multilateral institutions that hinder their development and undermine their effectiveness, in addition to current international issues related to global peace and security.” Special attention was given to “the humanitarian situation in Palestine, particularly the growing threat of forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, as well as security crises in Africa, especially in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”
On this occasion, the Vice-President of the National People’s Assembly affirmed “Algeria’s commitment to working within the framework of multilateral cooperation to strengthen partnerships with the Inter-Parliamentary Union to achieve its strategic goals for the 2023-2027 period.” For her part, Ms. Tulia Everton commended “the dynamism and effectiveness of the Algerian parliamentary group within the IPU,” highlighting “Algeria’s role, both at the governmental and parliamentary levels, in supporting international peace and stability, particularly in Africa.”
The statement added that she expressed “her awareness of the increasing challenges threatening multilateral parliamentary work,” emphasizing “the importance of solidarity and collective cooperation to address these challenges and strengthen the role of international institutions in achieving global stability.” The source noted that this meeting “reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and defending just causes, as well as contributing to efforts aimed at achieving peace and security worldwide.”
