Railways: Rahrroukh Chairs Meeting to Monitor Progress of Western Mining Railway Line

Algiers – The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rahrroukh, chaired a coordination meeting on Monday in Algiers to monitor the progress of the construction of the Western Mining Railway Line, which will connect Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet, according to a statement from the ministry.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the ministry, as well as the director-general of the National Agency for Railway Studies and Project Monitoring (ANESRIF), which is overseeing the project. Also present were the CEOs of major conglomerates such as “GICA,” “JCB,” “COSIDAR,” “GETRAMA,” and “GETRA,” along with representatives from national and foreign construction companies involved in the project.

According to the statement, the minister praised the efforts of national construction companies, highlighting their mobilization of human and material resources to bring this strategic project to fruition. He also commended the high level of expertise demonstrated by national teams in executing large-scale infrastructure projects, which supports economic momentum and reflects the state’s commitment to leveraging mineral wealth.

The Western Mining Railway Line spans 950 kilometers and includes three sections: Bechar-Hamakir (200 km), Tindouf-Am Al-Assal (175 km), and Hamakir-Am Al-Assal-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet (575 km).

The statement noted that part of the first section, a 98-kilometer stretch connecting Bechar to Abadla, has been completed, along with the construction of a modern passenger station.

Minister Rahrroukh congratulated the national teams for their commitment to implementing the project according to the specified standards, acknowledging their efforts to complete the work ahead of the contractual deadline, which was set for the end of February of the previous year.

Rahrroukh expressed satisfaction with the rapid pace of progress across the project’s three sections and emphasized his continued oversight of the implementation phases. He stressed the importance of adhering to all technical stages, ensuring the availability of necessary resources, and enhancing coordination among all partners.

The minister issued instructions to adhere to international standards, ensure the quality of work, and meet the challenge of completing the project within the set deadlines, as per the statement.
